This page discusses the business of asset management. For the asset management industry metric, see Assets under management (AUM).
Asset management refers to the business model of financial services firms that makes money from:
- Management or administration fees
- Interest rate spread
Charles Schwab has notably shifted its business model from commissions-based discount brokerage to more of an asset management business. In 2006, over 80% of Schwab's revenues came from asset-based activity.
